JOB DESCRIPTION

The Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and executing the company’s annual sales strategy, leading outside sales growth, managing strategic accounts, and overseeing a small inside sales and customer service team. Additionally, this role influencesmarketing strategy and execution, ensuring that marketing activities (e.g., digital, print, brand, and demand generation) support and enable sales targets. Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement annual sales plans to achieve 15% organic growth.
  • Identify, qualify, and secure new OEM, distribution, and industrial customers.
  • Conduct on-site customer visits to assess needs, provide solutions, and build strong technical and commercial relationships.
  • Cultivate relationships with engineering, purchasing, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of strategic and mid-size accounts.
  • Lead pricing discussions, contract negotiations, and supply agreement renewals.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and application recommendations.
  • Monitor demand trends, forecast customer requirements, and proactively reduce churn risks.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 2–3 inside sales and customer service professionals.
  • Implement efficient workflows to ensure quick quoting, order accuracy, and strong customer communication.
  • Train staff to increase product knowledge, improve problem-solving capabilities, and deepen technical understanding.
  • Use CRM tools to manage opportunities, pipeline development, and customer data.
  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly sales forecasts.
  • Analyze customer feedback, competitor activity, and market trends to inform strategy.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and production planning to ensure lead-time accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Support new product development, customization, and private-label opportunities.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, distributor events, customer demos, and technical conferences.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to sales processes, quoting accuracy, customer experience, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Work with marketing partners to ensure the strategy and its execution supports and enables achievement of sales goals.
  • Follow and model all company safety policies and guidelines.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working understanding of hydraulic systems, industrial filtration, or related components.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate complex product benefits in simple, value-driven terms.
  • Proven success in B2B industrial sales with OEM, distributor, or industrial channels.
  • Strong negotiation skills for pricing, contracts, and long-term agreements.
  • Track record of building and maintaining a robust sales pipeline.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve aggressive growth targets.
  • Experience leading or strongly influencing marketing strategy in a B2B industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing, content development, branding, and lead generation.
  • Ability to evaluate marketing ROI and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Experience collaborating with marketing agencies, designers, or content teams.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and hold team members accountable.
  • Experience improving team workflows and building strong internal processes.
  • Skilled in developing SOPs and implementing best practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • High professionalism and responsiveness with customers, vendors, and partners.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • CRM proficiency (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, etc.).
  • Strong command of forecasting, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, forecasting formulas).
  • Understanding of demand planning, production lead times, and order fulfillment processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing/Operations Management, or related field. Equivalent experience considered.
  • 7–10 years of B2B industrial sales experience strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience managing inside sales, customer service, or field sales teams.
  • Proven track record driving double-digit annual revenue growth, managing territories, and expanding mid-size to strategic accounts.
  • Experience in small to mid-size manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering, operations, and production teams.
  • Previous marketing leadership or marketing oversight experience strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel 25–50% for field visits, trade shows, and customer meetings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods for CRM work, reporting, and virtual meetings.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
