What You Will Do
Official Position Description
Establishes & implements operational plan within Traffic section of Roadway Services for highway lighting, striping & signing activities to insure properly maintained & safe highways; develops short range plans & establishes work priorities, oversees work activities in assigned area, supervises, evaluates & initiates discipline, schedules work activities, coordinates equipment and materials needs for scheduled maintenance projects, evaluates effectiveness & efficiency recommending changes to improve productivity & suggest necessary policy or procedural changes to enhance production or better meet customer needs, recommends training needs & assists with training program for staff development.
Provides on-going technical advice & support to supervisor, co-workers & employees, generates operational work plan & budgetary/fiscal reports; maintains inventory by approving purchases for equipment, supplies & material which includes repair or disposal of damaged or outdated equipment or supplies; visits job sites & facilities of county to conduct safety inspections & correct or recommend any correction of any unsafe conditions or activities; works with safety personnel to review accidents & injuries & recommend needed preventive measures or solutions.
Operates state vehicle (e.g., car, pickup) to travel throughout District to determine needed work, inspect completed work, observe work force with current activities & make objective observation for future planning needs; evaluates equipment operations to schedule needed maintenance. Checks permit applications to confirm departmental policies.
Attends meetings, training & planning sessions, oversees work activities in assigned area as needed or supervises employees in absence of regularly assigned supervisor.

- Collect, update, and maintain District Traffic asset inventories, including data entry and inspection
- Utilize multiple computer programs/software (Excel, Collector Program, Centracs, LocatorLogix, etc.)
- Oversee and review consultant inspections and provide maintenance follow-up
- Handle sign work orders and requests, including sign ordering, distribution, and sign stock management
- Work closely with other Traffic Managers to coordinate and execute field crew job duties
- Review construction plans and complete project final inspections
- Review and assign OUPS tickets
- Respond to public inquiries
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks without direct supervision
- Capable of performing solo field work, including inspections and inventory management
- Experience with traffic signs, supports, ITS, and lighting, plus understanding of electrical components and safety
- Skill in distributing work assignments, tracking completion of tasks, and providing follow-up
- Knowledge of ODOT Standards, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Construction and Material Specifications

- 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory principles & techniques or management; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in inventory control; valid driver license, & In addition, applicants must meet one of the following depending upon the program projects assigned to the position in question: For positions involved in equipment maintenance & repair, requires 3 yrs. trg. or 3 yrs. exp. in equipment maintenance & repair (i.e., automotive mechanics &/or auto body repair), associated safety practices, & using/operating associated equipment.
