- Act as Staff Specialist managing construction projects within the Construction Department
- Support assigned project staff in the performance of highway construction projects and the testing functions to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications
- Review and evaluate construction or plan issues in the field
- Authorize the need for revisions to the plans and review change orders on projects
- Review Progress Schedules and recommend extension of completion dates and assessment of Liquidated Damages
- Negotiate prices for extra work and new items of work needed on the projects
- Reviews and coordinates flow of project submittals, including shop drawings, lab reports, RFI’s, dispute documentation, etc.
- Review project staffing and equipment needs and assignment of staff and equipment based on project
- Management of assigned staff, including approval of Kronos & EIMS time, employee evaluations, approval of training, etc.
- Mentoring of assigned staff to ensure proper administration, inspection, and documentation is being completed
- Meet with contractors, local agencies, and public to resolve project issues and complaints
- Conduct and participate in construction project meetings (preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, partnering meetings, etc.)
- Involvement in project development prior to project award, including scope meetings, scope reviews, plan/constructability reviews, prebid questions, etc.

- Or licensed as registered professional engineer by Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 3, 85643; if assigned to operate a state vehicle to travel to & inspect project sites, must possess valid driver’s license.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
