Role Description The Natural Resources Technician 1 is a part-time, on-site, season role located at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, OH. This role supports the maintenance, conservation, and monitoring of natural areas, facilities, and recreational spaces managed by ODNR. Day-to-day tasks may include performing grounds and facilities maintenance, assisting with habitat restoration and invasive species control, beach cleaning, cleaning bathrooms, and operating hand tools, lawnmowers, and light equipment under supervision. Responsibilities also include following established safety protocols, maintaining accurate records of work performed, and collaborating with other staff to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment.
Pay is $20.05/hour, seasonal employment
Qualifications
- Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain, working in various weather conditions, and safely using basic hand tools and light equipment.
- Basic understanding of landscaping techniques
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to follow instructions, complete tasks accurately, and maintain clear records or logs.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and the public in a professional and respectful manner.
- Demonstrated reliability, time management, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team in an on-site setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or experience in environmental science, biology, forestry, parks and recreation, or a related field is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet any agency-specific background check or safety training requirements.
- Willingness to learn ODNR procedures, safety standards, and basic data collection or reporting methods relevant to natural resource work.
