Responsibilities
- Assist senior sushi chefs with food preparation, including ingredient handling and assembly of sushi rolls and sashimi
- Learn and follow proper food safety sanitizing procedures to maintain a clean and hygienic workspace
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives, rice cookers, and refrigeration units
- Support the team in meal preparation for high-volume service periods while adhering to recipe standards
- Participate in menu planning discussions and contribute ideas for new sushi offerings
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, utensils, and equipment in compliance with food safety regulations
- Support the team during catering events or special functions by preparing ingredients and assisting with plating
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a dietary aide or in food handling is preferred but not required; training will be provided
- Basic knowledge of food safety management and sanitizing procedures is advantageous
- Experience with food production techniques such as poaching, braising, grilling, or cooking is a plus
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Strong knife skills or willingness to learn precise cutting techniques for sushi ingredients
- Ability to work effectively in high-volume production environments within the food industry
- Excellent attention to detail, cleanliness, and adherence to recipe standards
- Prior restaurant or food service experience is beneficial but not mandatory; enthusiasm to learn is essential
