Role Description: The Senior Staff Accountant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Fresno, CA, with the flexibility to perform most responsibilities from home. This role includes preparing individual and business tax returns, performing general ledger reconciliations, and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. The Senior Staff Accountant will review work prepared by junior staff, ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, and maintain accurate documentation and workpapers. Additional daily tasks include responding to client inquiries, supporting tax planning engagements, and collaborating with leadership to improve processes and internal controls.
Qualifications
- Strong technical accounting skills, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
- Tax expertise in individual and business returns, basic tax planning, and current federal and California tax regulations.
- Proficiency with accounting and tax software (such as QuickBooks and leading tax preparation platforms), as well as solid Microsoft Excel skills.
- Effective communication and client service abilities, including clear written and verbal communication and the capacity to explain financial concepts to clients.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a busy practice environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam preferred. An EA or CPA License is required.
- Several years of progressive public accounting or tax firm experience, ideally in small or mid-sized firm settings.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid setting, maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.
