What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Team Member (Architectural Staff, Level 1) position at oh zhoo?
,We’re seeking a highly creative, technically curious, and detail-oriented individual to support and help lead the design and execution of a wide range of project types from concept through construction. In this hybrid role, you’ll wear several hats: emerging designer, technical drafter, and project orchestrator. You’ll assist in guiding projects through all phases — ideation, design development, documentation, coordination, and implementation — while ensuring timelines, budgets, and client expectations stay aligned. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives at the intersection of aesthetics and execution, offering a dynamic, impactful, and growth-oriented experience for a proactive and organized individual who wants to be a key contributor to a visionary founder in an exciting startup environment.
This is a part-time, contract-to-hire position, on-site in Aurora, Colorado, when scheduled, with the option to work remotely. The hourly rate is $22-28 per hour, with a minimum of 12 hours per week. At this time, we do not provide benefits for contract or part-time positions. This position will work hand-in-hand with, and directly report to the Principal Strategist & Boss Lady of oh zhoo, La victoria Healing Kitchen, La victoria Incubator Kitchen, and Marigold Market (her name is Katie). There are no employees for this role to manage; however, we have a small and mighty cross-functional team that this role will need to interface with regularly.

What you’ll do:
Make Projects Run Smoothly – 40% of the job.
- Help build the master plan — From design to execution, help map out *what* we’re doing, *who’s* doing it, and *when* it needs to be done; translating brainstorms into actionable checklists – kind of like planning a vacation, but with fewer beach days and more deliverables.
- Problem-solve, without panicking — Deadlines? Know them. Reminders? Send them. Drama? Help avoid it. Sometimes, things go a little sideways, and when they do, help find a way forward by pitching in with ideas, energy, and a can-do attitude.
- Act as a buffer between chaos and calm — Work closely with other team members to control access to Katie. Helping to manage incoming requests, communications, and priorities. Screen emails and calls as needed and help ensure information flows clearly and efficiently.
- Build relationships on trust and vulnerability — As the central hub for all project stakeholders, ensure that everyone’s work and input is heard and valued, by being approachable, accountable, empathetic, honest, and a little bit magical (we have that fairy wand lying around the office somewhere).
- Stay organized —Maintain well-structured digital project files, drawings, research, and record documents; support documentation standards, and assist with proper disposal of files, documents, and records.
Turn Napkin Sketches into Reality - 40% of the job.
- Support design development — Assist with cross-disciplinary design concepts, including interior, architectural, graphic, and branding elements. Help translate ideas into mood boards, sketches, diagrams, and digital concepts that reflect brand identity, client goals, and site context.
- Mix curiosity, taste, and logistics — Conduct material, precedent, and code research. Help select finishes, fixtures, and systems that balance budget, beauty, and practicality. Assist in developing clear, accurate, and easy-to-navigate specification documentation.
- Turn the vibe into viable — Produce and update plans, elevations, sections, and details under the guidance of senior staff, using SketchUp and other similar tools. Maintain drawing accuracy and consistency as projects evolve. Support the creation of 3D models, renderings, and graphics that communicate design intent clearly and compellingly — making future spaces feel real before they exist.
- Learn the craft — Build technical skills, understand construction methods, and absorb firm standards while contributing meaningfully to real projects.
Help Build the Empire – 20% of the job.
- Work cross-functionally —Because no two days are the same. Support multiple business entities under the same creative umbrella. Share skills, insights, and lessons learned from your role & responsibilities across projects and teams, for meaningful contribution across the board.
- Networking & Customer Support —We’re a small and growing business, so our reputation, client relationships, and business network are our lifeline. Everyone plays a role in delivering thoughtful, high-quality experiences to our clients while fostering a community of support and upholding the values of our firm.
- Professional growth — Stay curious and engaged through research, lunch-and-learns, industry events, and continuing education. This role is designed to grow with you.
