Head Coach Womens Lacrosse

The Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach is a member of the Oglethorpe University Athletic Department.  Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the head coach is responsible for maintaining positive public relations for the Athletic Department and for the development of the student-athletes within the intercollegiate lacrosse program in accordance with institutional, SAA, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Is directly responsible to the Director of Athletics.

1. Have a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.

1. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in the Oglethorpe University Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual and the rules and regulations as stated in the NCAA Division III Manual.

1. Report any alleged violations of NCAA, conference, or institutional rules and regulations.

1. Provides instruction to student-athletes on lacrosse fundamentals, performance, and strategy.

1. Organizes and conducts daily practice sessions. 

1. Manages and maintains an assigned operating budget.

1. Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment.

1. Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director of Athletics.

1. Recruits qualified student-athletes.

1. Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.

1. Works with the Director of Sports Information regarding publicity and promotion of his/her team.

1. Works with the Director of Athletics on scheduling.

1. Recommends athletes for awards.

1. Furnishes information regarding team roster for eligibility, etc. to the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance.

Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach cont.

1. Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes.

1. Assist with athletic department fundraising initiatives, including annual Booster Club expectations.

1. Develop a work schedule (office hours) that makes him/her accessible to the student-athlete and other schools.

1. Participates in institutional planning processes and divisional meetings and represents Student Affairs on request at gatherings that include multiple functional areas.

1. Participates in major Student Affairs and University events such as Orientation and Commencement.

1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.     

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Previous collegiate coaching is preferred. A commitment to the Division III philosophy; knowledge of NCAA rules.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position requires work in a normal office environment as well as on the lacrosse field, typically running, bending, crouching, and stooping; use of tools requiring high dexterity is required as well as the occasional lifting of up to 25lbs; use of office equipment, lacrosse equipment, and field maintenance equipment; flexible work schedule is also required.
