What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ogemaw County Treasurer position at Ogemaw County Prosecuting Attorney's Office?
In accordance with Michigan Election Law, the Ogemaw County Statutory Appointment Committee comprised of Probate Judge Scott Williams, Prosecuting Attorney LaDonna Schultz and County Clerk Breck Gildner, announces it is currently accepting applications for their consideration for appointment of a new Ogemaw County Treasurer. By statute, the Committee is authorized to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of County Treasurer Caren Piglowski, effective May 31, 2026.
This appointment would be to fill the unexpired term of office through December 31, 2028. Applicants would be responsible for filing the necessary paperwork to file as candidate in accordance with Michigan Election Law for the August primary and November General Elections in 2028, for the opportunity to be elected to a full, four-year term of office following the expiration of the appointment period ending December 31, 2028.
The primary duties of the Treasurer are as the custodian and manager of all county funds and the collector of delinquent taxes. In addition to those primary duties, the Treasurer also maintains accurate and complete financial records of the county, prepares financial reports for the county board of commissioners and administrator, invests county funds to earn interest and maximize returns, ensures that county funds are used legally and wisely, coordinates with banks and other financial institutions, provides assistance and guidance to other county departments on financial matters, manages the county’s debt and ensures timely payments, serves as the county landbank chair, oversees property tax settlement with local townships, and manages tax foreclosure proceedings as needed.
The annual salary is $68,531.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, a resident of Ogemaw County, Michigan, or be willing to establish residency in Ogemaw County by June 1, 2026. Background checks will be conducted under provisions of the Ogemaw County Personnel Policy.

A meeting of the Ogemaw County Treasurer Statutory Appointment Committee will be Monday, April 20, 2026, beginning at 2:30 pm in the Ogemaw County Commissioners Chambers of the Ogemaw County Building, 806 W. Houghton Avenue, West Branch, Michigan. Once selected, the candidate must be available to assume the role of County Treasurer on June 1, 2026.
