What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Police Officer position at Ogeechee Technical College?
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, patrols assigned areas and ensures security and safety of campus buildings and grounds for the college. Provides safety, emergency, and security services for the college campus. Manages traffic flow and enforces parking regulations. Investigates traffic incidents, vandalism, theft and/or violence. Performs administrative duties. May arrest perpetrators of crimes. Will be required to perform routine building checks utilizing an accountability system.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws/regulations
- Ability to handle crisis situations according to established guidelines
- Ability to complete reports according to established guidelines
- Ability to differentiate between colors
- Ability to work well with others
- Available to work day, evening and/or morning shifts
- Ability to travel between college campuses
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma/GED
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement Certification
- Valid Georgia driver’s license
- Two (2) years’ experience in law enforcement
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous law enforcement experience in an educational setting
- Training in Homeland Security
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, or closely related field
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Requires sitting, standing, waking, stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather.
- Position is subject to exposure of extreme and possibly life threating conditions.
- Position subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- A comprehensive psychological evaluation and physical examination is required prior to employment.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
