FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Temporary Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits & URS Fire Department

Aemt/Emt - Medical Advocate Prerequisits Required Upon Hire

  • National Registry/Utah Emergency Medical Technician(EMT), Advanced EMT(AEMT)or National Registry Paramedic/Utah Paramedic.
  • Education Requirement: High school diploma or GED

Preference For The Following Criteria

  • Field emergency medical experience
  • Advanced EMS certifications (AEMT/Paramedic)
  • Degree related to Emergency Medical Services
  • Experience in Social work or dealing with unsheltered

Position Summary

Ogden Fire Department is looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in joining our team. Applicants who are interested in pursuing a rewarding career as a Full-time EMT/AEMT - Medical Advocate (unsheltered) should be dedicated, motivated, and ready to work hard to provide a service to our community and our citizens.

The primary function of this position is interacting with our unsheltered population in and around our local homeless shelter, ensuring they receive medical evaluation and care prior to developing more serious medical conditions and or attending to emergent medical needs when warranted in conjunction with 911 first responders. The position's primary goal is to prevent minor medical conditions from becoming more serious through improved access to definitive care sooner and assisting unsheltered 911 callers with additional medical responses.

Under the general supervision of the Medical Battalion Fire Chief, this position will perform emergency medical and trauma care to patients. Conform to all policies, protocols, and guidelines established by the department through medical control and the city. Assesses patients and, when appropriate, stabilizes patients so that they may be safely transported to and from the hospital in accordance with protocols and guidelines established by the department and physician medical directors. This position is specific to the unsheltered population response located at or near the shelters within Ogden City and attending to the unsheltered outside of the City's shelters.

Education And Experience Requirements

Applicants must submit a copy of their high school diploma or GED with a completion date before an appointment.

Nims Required Training

Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 within three months of hire.

Essential Job Functions

  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
  • Employees are required to work independently and consistently interact with unsheltered individuals, co-workers, supervisors, homeless service advocates, unsheltered medical service providers, and the public.
  • Employees are required to communicate in person with the public.
  • Respond to emergency medical incidents if needed; operate emergency medical equipment; analyze patient needs and administer basic life support; apply techniques for the control of airway, breathing, circulation, spinal immobilization, shock, and patient packaging; and assess and communicate with the unsheltered population.
  • Participate in EMS-related training to comply with National, State, and industry standards.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Maintains all training records for recertification purposes in accordance with NREMT.
  • Assist and encourage the unsheltered to receive preventable medical evaluation and care.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the City.
  • Maintain good knowledge of City layout.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Emergency medical, CPR, and other medical assistance techniques.
  • Operation of ambulances
  • Ability to work with other services or medical advocates
  • Retain the presence of mind in emergency situations, analyze emergency situations, and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Drive fire department-assigned vehicles in an approved, safe manner.
  • Operate and maintain radio/communication equipment.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Position requires heavy lifting and physical maneuvering to demonstrate and maintain physical abilities. Positionrequiresrunning,walking,crouching,orcrawlingduringemergencyoperations; climbing stairs; performing lifesaving and rescue procedures; moving equipment and injured/deceased people; walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time; operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, with the ability to resolve conflict safely and effectively.

POSITION PAY

GRADE 125 - Annual Salary Range - $47,915.30 -$69,477.18 ($23.04 - $33.40 Hourly rate)

  • PROPOSED FY2026 - 2027 SALARY: GRADE 125: $48,959.85 - $70,991.78 ($23.54 - $34.13)
