Sales Engineer

Technical Sales and Client Development

Role Overview

The Sales Engineer is a client-facing technical sales role supporting growth for Oilfield Solutions Limited in the United States. The role develops relationships with power generation, data center and industrial customers, understands their operational and technical requirements, identifies relevant service opportunities and works with internal teams to develop practical, competitive solutions.

Reports to: Vice President of Sales

Key interfaces: Clients, Sales, Bids and Proposals, Operations, Commercial, Engineering, Supply Chain and project delivery teams

Location: Houston, Texas | Travel: 50% or more

Role Purpose

The role develops technically qualified sales opportunities from initial customer engagement through proposal, negotiation and award. The successful candidate will combine technical understanding with strong customer engagement, identify customer needs, qualify opportunities and coordinate internal resources to develop solutions that are technically sound, commercially attractive and deliverable by Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with existing and prospective customers across power generation, data centers and related industrial markets.
  • Identify sales opportunities for installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance, inspection, outage support, overhaul, field service and related power generation services.
  • Engage customers to understand equipment, operating requirements, technical challenges, schedules, commercial drivers and decision processes.
  • Conduct customer meetings, site visits and technical discussions, translating customer needs into clear opportunity requirements for internal teams.
  • Qualify opportunities by confirming scope, equipment, location, schedule, stakeholders, competition, customer priorities and realistic route to award.
  • Work with Bids and Proposals, Operations, Engineering and Commercial teams to develop technically credible and competitive solutions.
  • Support preparation and presentation of proposals, capability presentations, service solutions and technical clarifications.
  • Own customer communication through the sales process and ensure commitments, assumptions and follow-up actions are captured and communicated internally.
  • Support commercial discussions and negotiations within approved pricing, contractual and risk parameters.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity and sales pipeline information and contribute to account planning, market intelligence and sales forecasting.

Technical Scope

The role requires, or provides the opportunity to develop, practical understanding of power generation and rotating equipment services across gas turbines, generators, compressors, engines and balance-of-plant systems. Customer requirements may include installation, commissioning, maintenance, inspection, outage support, overhaul, field service, operational support and project manpower. The individual need not be the specialist for every equipment type, but must understand customer requirements, recognize technical gaps and engage the appropriate expert.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Engineering qualification in mechanical, electrical, controls, power generation or a related discipline, or equivalent practical technical experience.
  • Relevant experience in power generation, rotating equipment, technical services, field service, project delivery, technical sales or business development. Candidates with less direct sales experience will be considered where they demonstrate technical credibility, strong communication skills and aptitude for client-facing work.
  • Ability to understand technical information, ask effective questions and translate customer requirements into clearly defined sales opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage customers at technical, operational and commercial levels.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how scope, schedule, risk, resources and customer expectations influence a competitive solution.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer opportunities, priorities and follow-up actions while maintaining accurate and timely information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to prepare clear customer-facing and internal opportunity information.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for customer meetings, site visits, industry events and opportunity development.

Desirable

  • Experience with gas turbine and equipment suppliers, engineering and construction contractors, service providers, power plant operators or major industrial customers.
  • Exposure to gas turbine equipment from suppliers such as Solar Turbines, General Electric, Siemens Energy, Pratt & Whitney or Rolls-Royce.
  • Experience with data center energy centers, fast-track power projects, mobile generation, gas compression or offshore power generation.
  • Experience developing technical service opportunities, customer proposals, account plans or sales strategies.
  • Understanding of field service delivery, manpower planning, mobilization, logistics and the practical requirements of work at customer sites.

Core Competencies

  • Customer focus: Builds credible relationships, listens carefully and keeps customer requirements central to the sales process.
  • Technical credibility: Understands customer requirements, asks informed questions and engages appropriate technical expertise when needed.
  • Commercial awareness: Recognizes the commercial implications of scope, schedule, risk, competition and customer priorities.
  • Opportunity qualification: Distinguishes genuine, winnable opportunities from poorly defined or low-probability enquiries.
  • Communication: Explains technical and commercial matters clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ownership: Drives opportunities forward, maintains momentum and follows through on customer and internal commitments.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively across Sales, Bids and Proposals, Operations, Commercial and technical teams.

Measures of Success

  • Growth and quality of the qualified sales opportunity pipeline.
  • Development of strong, productive customer relationships and repeat opportunities.
  • Quality and completeness of opportunity qualification before handover into the bid process.
  • Timely progression of opportunities from initial engagement through proposal, negotiation and award.
  • Alignment between customer expectations, the proposed solution and operational delivery capability.
  • Accuracy and discipline of customer, opportunity, forecast and follow-up information.

Role Positioning

This is a client-facing technical sales role rather than a purely commercial account management position. It may suit an engineer, field service professional, commissioning specialist, project professional or technically capable salesperson who combines practical understanding with strong customer engagement. Oilfield Solutions Limited will provide development in its service offering, sales processes and proposal development. The role reports to the Vice President of Sales in Houston and is central to converting customer needs into well-qualified and deliverable opportunities.
