Duties

The duties and responsibilities for a Paralegal Specialist GS-0950-11 generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reviews documents for responsiveness to FOIA requests and suggests appropriate redactions and drafts appropriate responses;
  • Selects, assembles, summarizes and compiles substantive information concerning statues, regulations, digests, commentaries, legal instruments, and other legal reference material;
  • Prepares for all phases of administrative litigation, including development of the record of investigation, witness interviews, agency filings, and hearings, using electronic databases and other electronic means;
  • Researches and prepares memoranda on legal issues related to the diverse portfolio of OGC;
  • Prepares files for administrative litigation before the EEOC, MSPB, and the GAO; and 6) Drafts basic decisions in response to referrals on suspension and debarment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Paralegal Specialist, at GS-0950-11, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service, which includes: 1) Analyzing data to evaluate its usefulness in resolving legal issues; 2) Preparing summaries of precedent cases, interviews, or related case material for an attorney's use; AND 3) Performing legal research into the legislative history, precedent cases, decisions, or opinions relevant to a particular legal matter.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
