Responsibilities
The Office is currently seeking a Paralegal in the Public Safety Division of the Office. The Public Safety Division plays an important role within the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General. Our paralegals perform meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of Minnesotans. A paralegal in the Public Safety Division will support attorneys on a variety of state litigation and appellate cases occurring in all 87 counties in the state, primarily related to implied consent and other vehicle and licensing related litigation. A paralegal in the Public Safety Division will support attorneys on a variety of state litigation and appellate cases occurring in all 87 counties in the state, primarily related to implied consent and other vehicle and licensing related litigation. To support the division’s work, a paralegal’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing evidence
- Assisting with discovery
- Communicating with witnesses
- Managing court scheduling
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of formal paralegal coursework which resulted in a program certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree OR two years of experience working in a litigation setting as a paralegal or equivalent paraprofessional legal support position
- Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, legal document formatting, legal citations, electronic case management, e-filing/servicing, and witness meetings.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills
- Ability to:
- Multitask by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines
- Contribute positively to a team, interact effectively with clients and members of the public, and work in an inclusive environment
- Show excellent judgement, character, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality
