Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work related to activities within a courtroom setting; responsible for the security and maintenance of legal records/evidence. Prepare files scheduled for hearing; attend court proceeding and process after court documents. For new hire initial placement, this position is historically filled at a Level I. In some cases, an applicant's knowledge, skills, abilities, and education may qualify him/her for consideration to start at a higher level at the discretion of the Clerk & Comptroller.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
A valid Florida Driver's License may be required for some positions.
Unless otherwise noted, applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or possession of an accredited equivalency diploma, in addition to the direct experience required, and the ability to pass skills testing (such as typing, spelling, math, and grammar) within one (1) year. Preference is given to candidates with experience in a government entity performing similar functions.
For new hire initial placement, this position is historically filled at a Level I. Examples Of Duties (Essential Functions)

- Provide customer assistance to individuals requesting non-technical information.
- Prepare and print court calendars and order files scheduled for hearing. Prepare files for court and process subsequent court paperwork.
- Records case activity for entry into the case management system. Attend court proceedings to provide an accurate record of disposition; receive, label and maintain accountability of evidence, administer oath to jurors, witnesses and defendants; prepare verdict; complete paperwork required for disposition of case; obtain signatures from the judge for required paperwork.
- Complete paperwork on directives issued by the court and distribute copies to agencies and parties involved. Document court activity.
- Receive and process weekend advisory paperwork from Sheriff's Department. Attend weekend and holiday advisories. Prepare and process subsequent court paperwork.
- Respond to complex questions from the related agencies pertaining to court process. Answer inquiries in person, on the phone, through email and/or in written correspondence. Conduct research of records for data relating to inquiries.
- Assist attorneys and the public to ensure matters are handled in an efficient manner.
- Perform other duties as required.

Level I
- This position requires a high school diploma or possession of an accredited equivalency diploma.
- This position requires two (2) years of direct clerical experience in a courtroom environment.
- This position requires four (4) years of direct clerical experience preferably in a courtroom environment. Position is only available for promotion.
- Two years of direct experience can be substituted with an associate degree;
- Four years of direct experience can be substituted with a bachelor’s degree;
- Six years of direct experience can be substituted with a master’s degree;
- Seven years of direct experience can be substituted with a professional degree; or
- Nine years of direct experience can be substituted with a doctoral degree.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the Florida Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
- Knowledge of office procedures, Business English, spelling, and basic arithmetic.
- Knowledge of the principles and processes for effective, professional customer service.
