$25/hour – Patient Care Technician (PCT) | $30/hour – Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Benefits
Note: If you do not hold a CNA certification, you will be compensated at the HSW rate of $25/hour. If you are an active, registered CNA, you will receive the $30/hour rate.
Additional $5 per hour geographic pay differential for William R. Sharpe Hospital in Weston, WV

Job Description:
As a Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician, you will be essential in delivering high-quality care to our residents and/or patients. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct care services in a state healthcare facility. Assignments may take place at one facility or rotate among several of the three DHF facilities, depending on your availability and current staffing needs. Assignments may be per diem or may extend up to 12 months.
Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a criminal background check and a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. All employees shall be subject to drug testing for probable cause as set forth in policies. Travel may be required.
- Provide Direct Care: Assume daily responsibility and accountability for the physical care of assigned residents.
- Technical Skills: Perform basic technical skills, adhering to the Nursing Department’s policies and procedures.
- Collaboration: Work efficiently and cooperatively with residents/patients, families, nursing personnel, and other facility departments.
- Communication: Effectively communicate treatment information, nursing actions, resident needs, and observations to the appropriate persons, and document this information in line with Nursing Department policies.
- Supportive Environment: Support Nursing Services and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.
The Department of Health Facilities offers a unique State Facility Travel Program for nurses and other direct care staff. The purpose of the Program is aimed at reshaping its workforce structure to enhance efficiency, stability, and quality of care. Participants may be assigned to one or more of our seven state-owned facilities based on staffing needs with assignments ranging from per diem to full-time. This program provides a competitive hourly pay, benefits, and the opportunity to explore different care environments while supporting critical staffing efforts. Travel staff may be eligible for a generous appointment incentive package with full state benefits upon transitioning to a permanent position. Participation in the Program is limited to twelve (12) months.
Salary : $15 - $22
