The Office of Legislative Counsel of the Georgia General Assembly is accepting applications for one or more staff attorneys. Primary responsibilities include drafting legislation, providing advice and counsel to members of the Georgia General Assembly on legislative matters, preparing legal opinions on statutory interpretation and constitutionality, conducting legal research, serving as legal counsel for legislative committees, and performing other duties as assigned by the Legislative Counsel or his or her designee.
Essential duties include working in a fast-paced environment for extended hours leading up to and during legislative sessions (which typically continue without interruption for several months each year) and consistently delivering high-quality work in a strictly confidential, time-sensitive, and professional manner at all times.
Staff attorneys in the Office of Legislative Counsel shall be active members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, hold a juris doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school, and possess and demonstrate advanced skills in legal writing, client interaction, professionalism, interpersonal communications, and time management at all times.
The Office of Legislative Counsel is a non-partisan joint office, providing legal services to all members, regardless of political affiliation. The Office of Legislative Counsel must avoid all appearances of bias or partiality and is prohibited from employing persons related to members of the General Assembly or persons actively involved with a particular political party.
