The Supervisory Firearms & Toolmark Examiner serves as one of several section chiefs under the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Site Operations and performs casework examination in his/her field of expertise and is a regional NIBIN coordinator for the laboratory service region.

Basic Requirements
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - physical and biological sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or law.
OR
To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
Specialized experience must include all of:
- Serves as principal advisor on matters related to National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) and other firearm programs requiring significant laboratory participation; AND
- Ensures the timely dissemination of technical information to law enforcement organizations, forensic laboratories, intelligence organizations, and military agencies, both foreign and domestic; AND
- Establishes firearms laboratory policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
The major duties of the Supervisory Firearms & Toolmark Examiner (Section Chief) position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serves as Section Chiefs under the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Site Operations Branch.
- Provides supervision to a staff of professional personnel conducting examinations in areas of IBIS and firearm and toolmarks.
- Performs casework examination in his/her field of expertise and is a regional NIBIN coordinator for the laboratory service region.
- Coordinates forensic method development activities with the section and with other Laboratories upon request.
- Prepares reports and documents for analysis that could be used in publications professional journals and scientific publications.
