OIEC is the state agency that helps injured employees with their Texas workers’ compensation claims. The agency assists, educates, and advocates on their behalf. OIEC provides services in 20 offices across the state. Agency services include advocacy, customer service, and dispute assistance through OIEC’s Ombudsman Program.

Mail Clerk – Austin

The Mail Clerk performs routine administrative support work for the Office of Injured Employee Counsel. Work involves processing and distributing incoming mail; preparing and processing outgoing agency mail; and greeting and assisting agency customers. Reviewing and distributing incoming emails from the agency’s general email inbox to appropriate staff. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

This position must work Monday – Friday in the office from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

This position:

  • Sorts, processes, and distributes mail, overnight/ground, inter-department, inter-agency mail, outgoing and incoming mail, faxes and the OIEC Inbox and records received by the agency

  • Responsible for package tracking and delivery management systems, and automated shipping systems

  • Prepares and processes outgoing agency mail and shipments

  • Reviews and manages the agency’s general email inbox. Forwards and saves emails to appropriate field staff

  • Answers the agency’s main line and transfers calls to the appropriate field staff

  • Assists in monitoring and distributing incoming faxes

  • Greets and assists internal and external customers and responds to routine inquiries

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • graduation from high school or equivalent

  • eighteen months full-time work experience in a mail services environment or administrative or clerical support work

Additionally, preferences for this job are:

  • workers’ compensation knowledge

  • DRIS and TxComp experience (proprietary databases)

  • two years processing mail

  • bilingual in English and Spanish language skills (oral and written)

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • package tracking and delivery management systems

  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs required to perform the job

  • problem solving and critical thinking

  • providing excellent customer service

  • using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling

  • communicating effectively both verbally and in writing

Former Foster Youth Preference
