The Purdue Office of Engagement seeks a half-time (0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week, hybrid) graduate administrative / professional assistant to provide administrative support for the Engagement team in coordinating community engagement programs and initiatives. The Office of Engagement connects Purdue faculty, staff, programs and resources with external partners for community benefit and impact. The team is highly collaborative and an excellent environment for students with interests in communications, impact data, and community engagement.
This is a 12-month appointment with a base salary of $28,000 for the fiscal period, paid biweekly at an hourly rate, along with the remission of all but a portion of fees.
The dates of the appointment are July 1, 2026 through June 31, 2027 (preferred) or September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027. Note: A fully remote option may be available during the summer. Work hours may be scheduled flexibly, in coordination with and at the discretion of the direct supervisor.
The responsibilities of the role will evolve with the needs of the office and the unique skillset of the graduate assistant selected. For example, a graduate assistant with significant experience with written communication may have the bulk of their assigned work centered on written communication tasks.
Education
- Current enrollment in a Purdue West Lafayette PhD or master’s program in Communications, Health & Human Sciences, or a related field, with at least 2 years left to completion
Responsibilities
- Co-coordinating Purdue United Way campaign communications: managing the campaign calendar, writing articles and e-mails, communicating with campus champions
- Supporting Purdue United Way campaign activities, e.g. campus kickoff event, participant incentives, campaign reporting
- Supporting the Purdue United Way Board Fellows with nonprofit and student application, board placement, coordination, and program evaluation
- Supporting development of the BRIDGE database, helping with internal and external discovery meetings, collecting / cataloging opportunities for partnership and university resource data
- Creating public relations content to promote general community engagement activities, e.g., newsletter articles, e-mail outreach, and social media posts
- Supporting major events, including the Community Impact Summit
- Supporting and attending key campus and community meetings and events
Skills & Experience
- Previous community involvement with nonprofit or service organizations
- Previous experience in public relations and communications
- Previous experience with data collection, data entry, reporting, Qualtrics, or similar
- Excellent written and verbal English language communication skills
- Evidence of outstanding project management and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
