Description
The 74th Assembly District Office Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for college students and recent college graduates to experience the work of a State Assembly office. Running from September through December 2026, the program exposes participants to district office operations and the varied aspects of a legislator's work. Interns engage in activities such as working with constituents, conducting community outreach, assisting community-based organizations, analyzing databases, and staffing the office.
Qualifications
- An interest in public policy, community organizing, political science, economics, English, communications, public relations or a similar area of study or career path.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Availability between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends. Flexible schedules are available, recommended 10 hours a week
- Fluency in other languages in addition to English, a plus
Essential Duties Include
- Active involvement in monitoring District and State issues, current events and relevant legislation
- Assist in research and planning of upcoming events and projects
- Provide accurate and complete information in response to constituent inquiries and community issues
- Assist with and maintain office procedures, routine correspondence, telephone inquiries and special projects
- Assist in office communications to constituents through mail, email, and phone.
Benefits
Although unpaid, interns receive important benefits like working directly with elected officials, community leaders and local residents on issues and events related to the 74th Assembly District. Interns may also qualify for internship credit from their university or school, as well as earn a letter of recommendation from the Assemblymember.
