Summary
The office of Assemblyman Andrew Macurdy is seeking a Legislative Aide to help develop and execute the office’s legislative priorities.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor legislative activity in the Assembly and handle short-term and long-term legislative planning for the Assemblyman;
- Track the progress of bills with which the Assemblyman is involved as they move through the legislative process;
- Advise the Assemblyman on legislative matters, including by: writing memos, offering counsel on strategies and positions, and reporting on current legislation directly affecting the district;
- Take meetings on behalf of the Assemblyman;
- Monitor floor activity and report back to the Assemblyman and Chief of Staff;
- Work a flexible schedule, including extended evening and weekend hours as needed;
- Maintain the Assemblyman’s regular district correspondence, ie. biweekly newsletter;
- Accept and implement constructive, work-related feedback;
- Adapt quickly and work well in a team environment;
- Staff the Assemblyman in Trenton during Voting Session and Committee days;
- Perform other duties as assigned, including those related to press, scheduling, and digital communications.
Qualifications and Skills
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, as well as any legislative experience, is preferred;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with a variety of strong personalities in a fast-paced environment;
- Regular access to a vehicle is preferred;
- Roots in or nearby LD21 are preferred.
Commitment & Compensation
Position is full-time: 40 hours/week, with off-hour and weekend duties as needed. Benefits are included. Yearly salary is between $45,000 - $65,000 depending on experience.
