Knife Sharpener

Position Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager the Knife Sharpener will be responsible for maintaining, sharpen, clean, and sanitize heads, strip cutters and dicers.

The ideal candidate will perform various tasks including the operation of knife sharpening machines and basic maintenance.

Position Responsibilities

• Sharpen, clean, and sanitize heads, strip cutters and dicers.
• Ensure there are always heads and strip cutters ready when needed.
• Put new heads, and or strip cutters up when a change is required.
• Wash slicing cones prior to putting up the new head.
• Comply with all Olam policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Monitor the sump room and pump it when needed.
• Change sprinkler line in fields.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the knife shop.
• Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Lead person or Supervisor.
• Ensure that all tools and equipment are in their designated areas during and at the end of each shift.
• Assist Dehy with Inspection and Sanitation as needed.
• Report mechanical, product quality and safety issues to Supervisor or Lead promptly.
• Wear and use all assigned personal protective equipment and wear appropriate work shoes (gloves, eye protection, ear plugs and steel toe footwear/nonslip).
• This position is not limited to those duties in the job description. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced, or deleted to meet the business needs of the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  
  

Position Requirements

• Be able to learn to sharpen knives and set up knife heads and dicers.
• Have a working knowledge of Basic math.
• Have the ability, and willingness to work in other departments as needed.
• Be able to work on the off shifts and be willing to work overtime.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Able to bend, climb, lift, and stoop in order to perform job duties.
• Capable of lifting 75 lbs. consistently throughout a shift.
• Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and department Leads.
• Ability to work in a dusty, fast paced, and noisy production line environment.
• Ability to take direction from the department leads and work in a team driven atmosphere.
• Ability to wear all appropriate PPE.
• Minimum education required.
• Minimum years of experience required.
