What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Foster & Adoption Outreach Coordinator position at Off-Leash Second Chance?
We're looking for a motivated, resourceful, and highly organized individual to help us expand our rescue network and, most importantly, get more dogs into foster and adoptive homes.
Off-Leash Second Chance is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing dogs from overcrowded, high-risk shelters, particularly in California, and connecting them with opportunities for a better life.
Rescuing dogs is only the beginning. Finding them somewhere to go is often the hardest part.
We're looking for someone who understands that successful rescue requires more than sharing an occasional Facebook post. It takes persistence, creativity, relationship-building, and a willingness to actively pursue opportunities for every dog in our care. You do not need to come to us with an established rescue network. While experience in animal rescue is certainly a plus, we're equally interested in someone who is motivated, creative, organized, and excited to help us build one.
We're looking for someone who is naturally resourceful—the type of person who knows how to find the right Facebook group, connect with the right person, follow up on a promising lead, and keep looking when the first approach doesn't work.
What You'll Be Doing
Dog Networking & Promotion: Actively post and promote available dogs across relevant Facebook groups, rescue networks, adoption platforms, and other online communities.
Foster Recruitment: Identify, recruit, and build relationships with potential foster families, helping us develop a reliable foster network.
Adoption Outreach: Generate interest in adoptable dogs, respond to inquiries, and help connect potential adopters with appropriate dogs.
Rescue Partnerships: Establish relationships with other rescues, shelters, transporters, and individuals who can help facilitate placements.
Platform Management: Maintain accurate, engaging profiles for available dogs using platforms such as Shelterluv, Petfinder, and social media.
Creative Networking: Identify new groups, platforms, communities, and opportunities to increase each dog's visibility.
Placement Coordination: Work with our team to track dogs in need of placement, follow up on leads, and help move potential foster and adoption matches forward.
Communication & Follow-Through: Keep inquiries organized, maintain communication with interested parties, and ensure promising opportunities don't fall through the cracks.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is someone who:
Is exceptionally proactive and doesn't need to be told what to do next.
Is comfortable navigating Facebook groups, social media, and online rescue communities.
Has strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
Is organized and capable of managing multiple dogs, conversations, and placement opportunities simultaneously.
Understands the importance of following up, building relationships, and thinking creatively.
Is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
Is persistent, solutions-oriented, and willing to try different approaches when something isn't working.
Has experience in animal rescue, foster coordination, adoption networking, or a related field (strongly preferred).
What Success Looks Like:
We're not simply looking for someone to post dogs online. We're looking for someone who can turn visibility into meaningful results.
Success in this role means growing our foster network, developing strong rescue partnerships, generating qualified adoption interest, and helping more dogs move into appropriate, lasting homes.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
- Imagine you're tasked with finding a foster or adopter for a three-year-old Belgian Malinois who needs an experienced handler and cannot live with other male dogs.
Walk us through exactly how you would approach finding this dog a home. Where would you advertise him, who would you contact, and what would you do if your initial efforts weren't successful?
Please be specific. We're more interested in your thought process, creativity, and initiative than your previous rescue experience.
