What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Reading Teacher position at Odyssey Charter School?
Odyssey Charter School is the first charter school to utilize the blended learning model in Las Vegas and the 2nd established charter school in the state of Nevada. We are a public school that is sponsored by the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA). Our mix of online and in-class instruction, backed by an incredible staff, creates a K-12 educational journey that is effective and flexible enough to give kids with wide-ranging needs the foundation for success.

We are currently recruiting a full-time licensed Middle School Reading Teacher for the 2nd semester of the 2025-2026 school year. Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree and possess a valid Nevada Department of Education License. The license requires an endorsement in the area of K-8 English, 6-8 English or K-8 Teaching with Praxis exam in the area of 6th-8th Grade English. Candidates with out of state licenses must show that their NVDOE license is in process in order to be considered for the position. This position may require direct support and additional communication with English Language Learners and their families. Experience in this area is preferred.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and enjoy collaborating in teams. Candidates should also have strong computer skills, have an understanding of effective lesson planning/course design with online instruction experience preferred. Experience with Infinite Campus and bilingual Spanish is not required but preferred.
Odyssey Charter School maintains a competitive salary scale. Our salary scale ranges from $61,412 - $118,855, placement on the scale shall be based on your previous school-based contract amount. A $10,000 recruitment incentive will be provided to new staff with the first payment of the recruitment incentive of $5,000 to be issued immediately after the first Odyssey paycheck and the second payment of $5,000 will be issued in January.
We offer a health insurance plan through Teachers Health Trust that is aligned with the Clark County School District and we participate in the Nevada Public Employees Retirement System. Odyssey’s licensed staff contract days 184 days per contract year (employees starting after August 5th, 2025 will have a pro-rated contract). Employees receive 15 sick days per year and you may bring over your unused accrued sick time from your previous school district or public charter school within Nevada.
