POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician demonstrates a strong work ethic, the ability to manage multiple projects independently, and exceptional attention to detail. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting all aquarium systems and equipment as assigned through the work order system. The ideal candidate communicates effectively, delivers outstanding guest service, and collaborates seamlessly with all departments and team members to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and structural systems using test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Inspect systems and components for hazards, defects, and code compliance; make necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Read and follow blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
- Install, repair, or replace wiring, conduit, switches, outlets, lighting, and related equipment.
- Perform general construction tasks, including drywall, wood, plastic, fiberglass, and concrete work.
- Install and repair partitions, doors, windows, ceiling tiles, and glass panes.
- Conduct basic plumbing (toilets, sinks), HVAC, and network cabling repairs.
- Operate lifts, pallet jacks, and forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Perform preventative maintenance and maintain accurate tools and inventory records.
- Ensure all work meets specifications and building codes using proper measuring and leveling tools.
- Build aquarium theming and other structures as required.
- Weld and fabricate components as needed.
Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years’ commercial maintenance experience or equivalent skills from other employment (ex. Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Painting and Drywall)
- Must be familiar with current building codes.
- Forklift certified preferred.
- Must be mechanically inclined.
- Must be familiar with current OSHA regulations.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work, must be controlled by medications or protective equipment.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, and wet conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in occasionally loud environments.
- Ability to push or pull at least 25 pounds.
- Must be available to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
