Position Overview
The Sales Controller is responsible for delivering financial insight, reporting, and analysis to support the sales function. The role includes managing sales forecasting, performance tracking, and profitability analysis, with a strong focus on CRM data integrity and analytics. This role serves as a critical link between Finance and Sales, helping to drive data-informed decisions and improve commercial effectiveness. Ideal candidates will have strong CRM analytics and prior experience with sales forecasting and planning.
Responsibilities
Sales Forecasting & Planning
- Collaborates with Sales, Finance, and Operations to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales forecasts
- Monitors deviations from forecasts and budgets, perform variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions
- Prepares and presents monthly reports on sales performance, pipeline progression, and margin analysis
Sales Performance Analysis
- Analyzes sales performance by customer, product, region, and channel using data from CRM and ERP systems, providing feedback and insight to internal team
- Develops and maintains dashboards to track KPIs such as revenue, volume, gross margin, customer profitability, and pipeline health
CRM Integration & Analytics
- Ensures CRM (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, HubSpot) is used effectively as a tool for managing pipeline visibility and sales planning
- Partners with Sales and IT to improve CRM data quality, completeness, and usage; provides training and guidance as needed
- Extracts and analyzes data from CRM to support sales reporting, customer segmentation, lead conversion tracking, and opportunity funnel analysis
- Supports CRM-related projects such as KPI development, workflow automation, or system enhancements
Pricing & Profitability
- Provides financial guidance on pricing strategies and contract negotiations
- Analyzes product and customer profitability, rebates, and commercial terms to optimize margin
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Supports annual budgeting and long-range planning for sales revenue and related commercial expenses
- Tracks and controls trade spending, promotional budgets, and sales incentives
Process Improvement
- Drives continuous improvement in sales and financial processes
- Helps define and implement best practices for sales planning, CRM usage, and reporting workflows
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (MBA preferred), or equivalent combination of education and work experience, required
- 3–5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or sales operations
- Strong experience with CRM systems (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics)
- Advanced Excel and reporting skills; experience with BI tools like Power BI or Tableau is a plus
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar (SAP preferred)
- Background in manufacturing or B2B sales preferred
- Experience integrating CRM data into sales reporting and forecasting
- Strong understanding of sales processes, performance metrics, and customer segmentation
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions
