Estimator II
MAJOR FUNCTION
Provides Corporate Estimating Support to all regions. Estimator II is responsible for estimating the cost of projects and materials. They work with a variety of different teams, including construction crews, purchasing agents, and other managers to determine how much it will cost to complete a project or purchase certain materials.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Embrace Odin’s Core Values in all aspects of the job.
- Developing complete detailed estimates for large, complex jobs.
- Reviewing owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project.
- Developing a construction plan to serve as the basis for the estimate.
- Performing quality take-offs when applicable.
- Consulting with internal Odin stakeholders on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, and schedules.
- Presenting and reconciling estimates with the capture team and clients.
- Staying abreast of trends and developments in the industry.
- Attending project meetings and site visits as required.
- Establish preliminary project schedules.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
- Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex projects.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to use P6, CAD and possibly AGTEK in addition to the listed software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and any experience with HCSS HeavyBid estimating software is a plus.
- Ability to meet contract deadlines, potentially requiring extended hours including nights and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with vendors, management, and other coworkers, both individually and in front of a group
- Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential
- Thorough knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid and Microsoft office.
- Sitting for extended periods of time is common
- Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents
- No heavy lifting is expected, though exertion of up to 15 pounds of force may occasionally be required
- Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculator, copiers, and fax machines
- Good reasoning ability is important, must be able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business
- Primarily an office position. Occasionally, site visits and field project visits are required. Travel to offices and projects in various locations around the country as needed. The following physical activities are often, but not always, associated with site visits:
- Must be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations
- When on project sites or if performing some types of work or activities, must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel-toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting and occasionally outdoors on a construction site.
They may travel to job sites and meet with clients, but most of their work is done behind a desk. They work regular hours but may have to put in extra time to meet deadlines.
The job can be stressful, as they are often under pressure to get bids in on time and within the budget.
There is a lot of competition for jobs, so the estimating manager must be accurate in their estimates.
The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associate with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.
· Job site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust, and fumes
· Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions
· Uneven ground
