What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Manufacturing Engineer position at Odin Fabrication, Inc.?
About us
Odin Fabrication is a precision sheet metal fabrication and contract manufacturing company in Elburn, IL. We run fiber laser cutting, CNC forming, CNC turret punching, robotic and manual TIG/MIG welding, hardware insertion and finishing for customers in data centers and electronics, medical devices, defense, automotive, oil and gas, and food and beverage. We are growing, pursuing AS9100 certification, and adding CNC machining capability.
The role
This is a senior manufacturing engineering position. You'll own how parts get made — routings, standard times, work instructions, fixtures and tooling — and you'll build the continuous improvement discipline and formalized. It's hands-on. There are no direct reports, and there's no bureaucracy between you and a decision.
What you'll do
- Build accurate routings and standard times in our ERP, then close the loop with post-run analysis comparing estimate to actual
- Develop 3D models and flat patterns for new parts, with the right bend allowances for our tooling and materials using Solid Works (bend allowances already established).
- Design fixtures and weld sequences that control distortion and take time out of the job
- Run continuous improvement projects against real targets: scrap, rework, setup time, material yield
- Improve nesting and material utilization across the laser and turrets
- Support quoting with manufacturability review and process selection
- Lead root cause analysis on nonconformances and drive corrective action
- Support our ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality system
- Help support CNC turning cell
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in precision sheet metal
- 5 years of manufacturing engineering in a job shop or contract manufacturing environment
- Real knowledge of sheet metal processes — laser or turret, press brake forming, welding, hardware insertion
- 3D CAD with sheet metal modeling and flat patterns; SOLIDWORKS required
- Experience using an ERP for routings and shop floor data; JobBOSS² a plus
- Continuous improvement results you can describe with numbers
- Comfortable working independently and setting your own priorities.
