Contracts Specialist
MAJOR FUNCTION
The Contracts Specialist is responsible for reviewing, redlining, and managing prime contract documents, and ensuring compliance with federal and private sector requirements. This role provides critical support to the estimating and operations teams by analyzing contract terms, identifying risks, and ensuring all contractual obligations are met. The position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of contract language, and the ability to collaborate across departments to maintain compliance and mitigate risk.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

- Review and redline contracts for compliance, risk, and alignment with company standards at bid and award stage
- Identify and escalate high-risk clauses to General Counsel
- Negotiation of contracts as assigned by General Counsel.
- Provides Claim Preparation Support to General Counsel.
- Review bonding and insurance requirements for each bid opportunity.
- Requests bonds and insurance certificates/quotes as required.
- Review and verify all insurance certificates and ensure they fully comply with the project and Company requirements
- Provide contract-related guidance to proposal teams during bid preparation.
- Create and update tracking of all contract documentation and provide regular reporting to the Project Manager.
- Verify alignment between the subcontract documents and the prime contract and associated exhibits and ensure all contract requirements are met throughout the project life cycle with assistance as needed from the Subcontracts Manager
- Review compliance reporting requirements (SPRS, myDEQ, etc.)
- Perform compliance reporting as required by contract.
- Maintain accurate records of contract modifications and approvals.
- Special projects as assigned by General Counsel.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Construction Management, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in contract administration or compliance, or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
- General knowledge of the various disciplines and procedures within company required.
- Strong understanding of contract language, risk management, and insurance/bonding requirements.
- Familiarity with FAR/DFARS and private sector contracting.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with vendors, management, and other coworkers, both individually and in front of a group
- Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential
- Sitting for extended periods of time is common
- Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents
- No heavy lifting is expected, though exertion of up to 25 pounds of force may occasionally be required
- Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculator, copiers, and fax machines
- Good reasoning ability is important, must be able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting.
