What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-K Paraprofessional position at Odem Elementary School?
GENERAL INFORMATION: PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT:
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Knowledge of and the ability to assist with Reading Intervention, writing, and mathematics.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes morning drop off/afternoon pickup, lunchroom, and bus duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students. OTHER:
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
- Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
*Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with children.
