What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computer Technician position at Odem-Edroy ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Perform onsite technical work to install and maintain computer hardware, peripherals, and software applications throughout the district. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing computer hardware and peripherals. Facilitate the effective use of technology throughout the district. Provide technical support in the use of hardware and software throughout the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Clear and valid driver’s license
College degree in computer science or information systems is preferred.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Previous experience with PC and Server maintenance and setup.
Previous experience with PC and Server peripheral setup and maintenance.
Previous experience with Windows PC and Server operating systems and applications.
Some experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft and Google platforms
Ability to analyze and resolve computer hardware, peripheral, and software problems.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years of technical support experience with preferred experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals in an enterprise or organization.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Technical Support
- Provide remote and onsite technical assistance to district staff for use of equipment, including computer hardware, peripherals, and software.
- Provide remote and onsite assistance to district office staff with technology problems and questions.
- Install and upgrade computers and peripherals as needed.
- Maintain computers for district staff and arrange for needed repairs.
- Perform upgrades to computers, peripherals, and software.
- Install and configure software applications as needed.
- Relocate computer hardware and peripherals as needed.
Equipment Repair and Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair computer hardware and peripherals.
- Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule.
- Maintain updated records of preventive maintenance.
- Maintain records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
Inventory
- Maintain inventory of hardware, software, and peripherals throughout the district.
- Identify, request, and control the inventory of repair parts.
Safety
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing and carrying.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
Other
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, TEA and local school board.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Must be willing and able to pursue additional training and professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
EQUIPMENT USED: Computers, copiers, peripherals, audiovisual equipment and small hand tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent district wide travel; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computers; lifting of heavy equipment (50 lbs.). Moderate to frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
