What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Scientist - Drug Discovery & Translational Biology position at ODDITY LABS?
WHO WE ARE
ODDITY is a consumer tech company that builds and scales digital-first brands to disrupt the offline-dominated beauty and wellness industries. The company serves over 40 million users with its AI-driven online platform, deploying data science to identify consumer needs, and developing solutions in the form of beauty and wellness products. ODDITY owns IL MAKIAGE, SpoiledChild, and medical-grade skincare and telehealth platform METHODIQ. ODDITY LABS is our cutting-edge biotechnology R&D center, powering science-backed product innovation through the discovery and development of new molecules, probiotics, peptides, and other biological modalities. Unlike pharmaceuticals, ingredient innovation in the beauty and wellness industry has remained stagnant for decades. We are deploying patented, proprietary technologies and capabilities, including AI-based molecule discovery and advanced phenotypic databases, to understand the biological mechanisms that drive cellular behavior and develop uniquely efficacious products for beauty and wellness applications. Innovations from the ODDITY LABS will power game-changing products through ODDITY’s current brands, as well as future brands.
ODDITY operates with business headquarters in New York City, an R&D center in Tel Aviv, Israel, and a biotechnology lab in Boston. Our culture is fast-paced, innovative, agile, and offers every team member the opportunity to drive a big impact.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to own translational biology programs and build decision-grade assay platforms across dermatology discovery. You will be the scientific driver for one or more parallel workstreams — from target validation and phenotypic screening through ex vivo — while mentoring junior scientists and partnering with chemistry, formulation, computational biology, and external CROs. In this role, you will:
- Work closely and collaborate with Platform within ODDITY LABS to develop novel macromolecules, including peptides and proteins, for topical and non-topical skin applications in the health and wellness industry.
- Lead research programs focused on new molecule discovery, high-throughput screening, target validation, and assay development.
- Drive target validation and mechanistic de-risking using cell-based, biochemical, phenotypic, and reporter assays.
- Refine and continuously evolve existing pipelines to enable data-driven decision-making, accelerating proof-of-concept to product stages and ensuring robust validation pipelines for anti-aging products.
- Standardize workflows for reproducibility, data traceability, and stage-gate readiness (ELN, program tracking, assay SOPs).
- Serve as the technical owner for program milestones: experimental design, data interpretation, go/no-go recommendations, and documentation for internal review forums.
- Stay apprised of new dermatology, bioengineering and tissue engineering trends and implement new technologies that further enhance the capabilities of ODDITY LABS.
- Design, validate, and scale assay platforms including MSD, HTRF, qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, high-content/phenotypic screening, and in vitro safety packages (viability, genotoxicity, phototoxicity, sensitization, irritation).
- Build and operationalize translational models: ex vivo human skin explants, Franz diffusion IVPT, LC/MS permeation readouts, and multiplex immunohistochemistry.
- Support 1-3 team members across their developments, providing feedback, coaching, and mentorship to foster expertise in anti-aging science.
- Manage CRO and vendor studies end-to-end: study design, QC, timeline accountability, and scientific review of deliverables.
- Foster a culture of innovation and leadership within ODDITY LABS and across ODDITY teams.
WHO YOU ARE
- You hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or PharmD in Bioengineering or Biology with 5 years of industry experience, with a proven track record in anti-aging research or related fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in translational biology, assay development, and preclinical evaluation — not purely academic discovery without applied execution.
- You have extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, particularly experience with handling primary human cells. Experience with stem cells, iPSC differentiation and/or 3D skin models.
- Hands-on experience with human-relevant skin models (ex vivo explants, IVPT/Franz diffusion, or equivalent tissue-based pharmacology).
- Track record of cross-functional collaboration with chemistry, formulation, regulatory-aware safety science, or external partners.
- You are a strong problem solver with a deep curiosity and desire to tackle challenging anti-aging research questions.
- You are enthusiastic about building and growing a team, creating an environment that supports your team’s personal and professional development while delivering strong performance.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including those focused on anti-aging solutions.
- Strong scientific communication: publications, patents, grants, and/or extensive internal technical documentation.
- Preferred experience: Direct experience in dermatology R&D (pigmentation, acne/sebaceous biology, inflammatory skin, or skin aging).
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Visa sponsorship available (OPT, STEM OPT, H1B, TN).
- This position is in-office in our Cambridge, Massachusetts office and laboratory.
- The salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
Salary : $130,000 - $150,000
