Position Summary

Oculofacial Surgical Arts is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Surgical Technologist to join our boutique oculofacial plastic surgery practice on a per diem/part-time basis. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned surgical professional who enjoys both the operating room and direct patient care in a private practice setting.

This role is approximately an equal blend of operating room responsibilities and clinical support. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable assisting in surgery, preparing and sterilizing instruments, supporting patient flow in clinic, answering phones, and helping ensure the practice operates efficiently each day.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in exceptional patient care, meticulous attention to detail, and maintaining the highest standards of sterility, safety, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Operating Room

  • Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room environment.
  • Scrub and assist during oculofacial and facial plastic surgery procedures.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and efficiently pass instruments and supplies.
  • Perform surgical counts according to policy.
  • Assist with room turnover between cases.
  • Prepare specialty oculoplastic and plastic surgery instrumentation.
  • Assist with patient positioning and operating room setup.
  • Maintain compliance with Quad A accreditation standards, OSHA regulations, infection prevention protocols, and HIPAA requirements.

Sterile Processing

  • Perform instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage.
  • Operate steam sterilizers and maintain sterilization logs.
  • Perform biological monitoring and quality assurance testing.
  • Maintain instrument inventory and identify instruments requiring repair or replacement.
  • Ensure all sterile processing activities comply with AAMI and CDC standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterile processing area.

Clinical Support

  • Room patients and assist with patient intake.
  • Obtain medical histories and document information accurately.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and minor office procedures.
  • Assist the physician with in-office procedures.
  • Perform clinical photography as directed.
  • Provide patient education and postoperative instructions.
  • Assist with inventory management and stocking of examination rooms.
  • Maintain exam rooms and procedure rooms according to infection control standards.

Administrative Support

  • Answer incoming telephone calls professionally.
  • Schedule appointments and assist with patient communication.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies, referring physicians, imaging centers, and surgical facilities.
  • Assist with surgery scheduling and coordination.
  • Help maintain an exceptional concierge-level patient experience from first phone call through postoperative follow-up.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred.
  • Sterile Processing certification (CRCST or CBSPD) preferred, or extensive documented experience in sterile processing.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of surgical experience.
  • Previous experience in oculoplastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, plastic surgery, ENT, or ophthalmology is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with sterile processing and instrument reprocessing.
  • Experience in an ambulatory surgery center or office-based surgery setting preferred.

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
