Java Lead - Senior Business Systems Engineer

A leading financial services client is looking for a Java Lead (Senior Business Systems Engineer) to work as a senior technical expert across project planning, architecture, development and production support. You will turn project scope into technical solutions, guide business and engineering teams, mentor developers, and take ownership of enterprise application quality, from code review through deployment and SLAs.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Planning

- Contribute to project plans, technical architecture and system design.

- Explain project scope, objectives and timelines to business and systems engineering teams.

- Lead project sizing and effort estimation.

- Design scalable, efficient distributed systems and microservices.

Development & Integration

- Carry out technical analysis, system design, development and system integration.

- Build enterprise applications with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud and Spring WebFlux (reactive).

- Design and implement RESTful and SOAP APIs, managed through Apigee.

- Build real-time data processing with Kafka or RabbitMQ.

- Present system designs to stakeholders.

Quality & Delivery

- Lead code reviews and enforce coding standards and enterprise best practices.

- Manage code migration, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) and maintenance window planning.

- Write unit tests and maintain code reliability through testing frameworks.

- Define and monitor system SLAs, metrics and monitoring.

Support & Leadership

- Resolve production issues and handle escalations.

- Maintain system documentation.

- Mentor less experienced engineers.

- Develop solutions to complex problems and contribute new technical approaches.

Required Skills

Backend

- Strong Java expertise: Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Java EE, Spring WebFlux.

- REST and SOAP API design; Apigee or similar API management.

- Kafka or RabbitMQ for streaming.

- At least one caching layer: Redis, Memcached or Hazelcast.

- Tomcat or similar application servers.

Data

- Database design and management with SQL, Oracle, and MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Front End

- HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React or a similar framework.

Cloud & DevOps

- AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

- Docker and Kubernetes.

- Git, GitLab and GitLab CI/CD.

Tools & Process

- IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse or VS Code.

- Jira; Agile/Scrum delivery.

Professional Skills

- Efficient troubleshooting and timely resolution of technical issues.

- Track record of supporting and maintaining complex business systems.

- Strong communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

- Proven time management.

- Must work 100% onsite in Las Vegas, NV.
