POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Standardized Patient (SP) Actor Program Manager directs the human simulation pillar of the department. This person is responsible for coordinating standardized patient actors for clinical events, training them on specific medical cases, assuring standardization, and ensuring assessment rubrics are followed. This role collaborates heavily with the Director of Simulation to develop session materials, including communication OSCEs and sensitive physical exam scenarios, and manages the specific SP software modules to track performance, safety, and work hours.

MISSION:

The mission of the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine is to train caring and competent osteopathic physicians who will have an impact on the Central Florida community, our nation, and our global community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • SP Recruitment & Training: Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a diverse pool of standardized patients. Design training programs to ensure standardized portrayal, case consistency, and effective feedback delivery across a wide range of clinical encounters (e.g., sensitive reproductive health histories, psychiatric presentations, and difficult family communications).
  • Curriculum Co-Development: Collaborate with the Director of Simulation to translate clinical outlines into fully fleshed-out patient scripts, SOAP notes, and affective instructions for the actors.
  • LearningSpace Management (SP Module): Manage the SP-specific modules within the simulation software. Assign specific actors to digital encounters, monitor SP grading reliability, and ensure SPs complete required student evaluations accurately.
  • Quality Assurance & Administration: Develop quality assurance processes to evaluate SP performance. Maintain accurate records of SP availability, payroll, and training.
  • Professional Development: Maintain ASPE professional competencies by attending training sessions and regional conferences.
  • Requires flexible hours, including occasional evening or weekend work to support SP training sessions and OSCE events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, healthcare, theater arts, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in standardized patient program management, clinical communication instruction, or theater education.

KEY COMPENTENCIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching abilities.
  • Deep understanding of SP methodologies and objective clinical assessments.
  • Strong creative writing skills for scenario development.
  • Proficiency with SP management software modules.
  • Proficiency in Apple/MAC products and Google Workspace.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up and carry up to 25 pounds at a time
