Skilled Construction Laborer

Ocmand Construction Co. LLC
Lafayette, LA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/4/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/2/2026

Job Summary

We're a family-run commercial general contractor looking for a skilled construction worker who can move between scopes and be useful anywhere on a job site. This is not a single-trade position. The right person can form and pour concrete one week, hang doors and run trim the next, install erosion control ahead of a storm, and jump on a machine when we need dirt moved.

We run small, tight crews, which means you'll work directly with the superintendent and project manager, get real responsibility, and won't spend your day waiting to be told what to do. If you're the guy other people on site come to with questions, we want to talk to you.

Duties

  • Read and work directly from construction drawings, specifications and shop drawings without needing to be walked through them
  • Perform site layout from control lines and benchmarks - measuring, squaring, and setting work to elevation
  • Form, place, and finish concrete - footings, grade beams, slabs on grade, sidewalks, ADA ramps and paving
  • Set and tie reinforcing steel, mesh, anchor bolts and embeds to layout
  • Install metal stud and wood framing, blocking, and sheathing
  • Hang doors, frames and hardware; install trim, casework and finish carpentry
  • Install and maintain erosion control and stormwater measures - silt fence, stabilized construction entrances, inlet protection, concrete washouts, and temporary and permanent stabilization
  • Perform demolition, material handling, staging, and daily site cleanup
  • Operate power tools, saws and small equipment safely, and keep them maintained and in working order
  • Coordinate with and support subcontractor trades to keep work moving
  • Follow OSHA requirements and site safety procedures, and speak up when something isn't right

Requirements

  • 5 years in commercial construction, or equivalent hands-on experience - if you have fewer years but can genuinely do the work above, apply anyway
  • Versatility across multiple trades. We are not looking for a specialist in one thing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and technical drawings accurately
  • Solid layout and measuring skills - able to get work square, level and on grade
  • Experience with power tools and standard construction equipment
  • Working knowledge of jobsite safety practices and OSHA requirements
  • Own basic hand tools
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to work without minute-to-minute supervision
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ground-up commercial construction experience - you've been on a job from dirt to turnover, not just one phase of it
  • Experience running a scope on your own or leading a small crew - laying out the day's work, directing two or three guys, and being accountable for the result
  • Heavy equipment operation. Excavator, mini excavator, skid steer, backhoe, telehandler or forklift. Tell us what you can run in your application

Physical Requirements

This is outdoor field work in South Louisiana. With or without reasonable accommodation, you'll need to be able to:

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and handle heavier material with assistance or equipment
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and climb ladders throughout the workday
  • Work at heights and on uneven ground
  • Work outdoors year-round in heat, humidity, cold and rain
  • Work safely in and around active construction and heavy equipment

What We Offer

  • Steady year-round work with projects lined up
  • Pay based on what you can actually do, not just years on a resume
  • Overtime available
  • Direct access to the people making decisions - no layers, no runaround
  • A path to foreman or superintendent for someone who wants it

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • On-the-job training
  • Opportunities for advancement
  • Paid time off
  • Profit sharing
  • Safety equipment provided

Work Location: In person

Salary : $20 - $40
