This job works in a collaborative model that includes psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and staff who care for child/adolescent inpatient psychiatry patients. This job falls under the supervision of the Medical Director, additionally, there are collaborating physicians and approved supervising staff physicians. Together, the team works with a multidisciplinary group to provide high quality treatment for our patients. Ensures responsibility for the management of mental health and substance use conditions by obtaining patient history and performing assessments using interview, observation, and examination, formulating a diagnosis, developing and implementing treatment plans including prescribing medication, and coordinating with additional healthcare providers to provide outstanding care that promotes positive patient outcomes.

Education
Required - Graduate of an accredited masters or doctorate program specializing in psychiatric nurse practitioner
Work Experience
Experience with ongoing clinical management of psychopharmacology
Preferred - 2 years’ related psychiatry working experience with in an outpatient setting.
Certifications
Required – Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice
Current board certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) with Child/Adolescent Training
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
Current or eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing
Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Registration/Licensure

- Completes initial consultations, formulates an initial diagnosis and treatment plan for individuals with mental health disorders; and provide psychopharmacology evaluations and treatments.
- Provides clinical services including medication management in accordance with evidence-based practices.
- Monitors changes of patients with persistent mental illness.
- Initiates and completes all relevant documentation within organizational time frames.
- Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
- Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, and other health professionals.
- Develops working relationship with physicians and colleagues.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
