Job Description
Haile Gold Mine is seeking driven Drill and Blast Engineer to join our Open Pit Planning Team. As a Drill and Blast Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in planning, designing, and optimizing our Open Pit operation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a talented team of professionals
- Collaborate with engineering, geology, and mine operations teams to develop drill and blast plans that optimize production and align with mid-range and Life of Mine (LOM) plans.
- Assist with end-of-month (EOM) reporting for active mining areas.
- Design drill patterns, blast timing, and activity sequences, and develop schedules for short-range drill and blast plans.
- Analyze weekly, monthly, and bench plan compliance to identify variances and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor, analyze, and plan pit sequencing to support efficient and safe mining operations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional departments to ensure mine plans align with overall production and operational goals.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly highwall compliance monitoring.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and up to one-month drill and blast plans.
- Provide technical guidance to operations teams to support achievement of short-range and long-range mine plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Previous experience in mining or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik (preferred) and/or Vulcan.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail; self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Prior operations and/or engineering experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Interest in building a long‑term career in mining engineering, with opportunities to progress into advanced planning, technical, or operational roles.
