General Expectation All duties and responsibilities shall be carried out in a manner consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of Ocean Breeze School. Teaching Assistants are expected to foster a warm, inclusive, and respectful environment that reflects the school’s commitment to early childhood development, community, and joyful learning.Supervision and Scope

The Teaching Assistant works under the direct supervision of the school Director and in close collaboration with the Lead Teacher. This role is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the classroom and assisting with instruction, supervision, and classroom management as directed by the Director and Lead Teacher.

Requirements

1. Education & Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 3 credits in Child Growth and Development from an accredited college or university.
  • Plus one of the following: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field, OR 9 months of work experience in a licensed child care program and 3 additional credits in early childhood education (6 credits total).

2. EEC Certification

  • Must be certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC)
  • Teacher Certification (required to be a lead teacher)
  • Lead Teacher Certification (optional but often preferred)

3. Background Record Check

  • Must pass a comprehensive Background Record Check (BRC), which includes:
  • CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information)
  • SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information)
  • Fingerprinting

4. CPR and First Aid Certification

  • Must maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid or attend workshop at OBS

5. Professional Development

  • Required to complete annual training hours

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Teacher in implementing classroom activities and daily routine.
  • Assist in the preparation and setup of circle, art, nature, and movement activities
  • Supervise and engage with students during structured and free play times
  • Help organize and maintain materials related to unit themes and student portfolios
  • Observe students and share insights with the Lead Teacher as needed
  • Help document developmental progress and classroom engagement
  • Support students with individual needs under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
  • Participate in student support meetings and conferences as needed
  • Maintain respectful and friendly communication with families
  • Support the Lead Teacher in preparing newsletters or photos for family communication
  • Follow school protocols for Procare messaging when appropriate
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times
  • Support with transitions, bathroom routines, and mealtimes
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all student allergies, medications, and administration procedures.
  • Required to be aware of and follow all student consent forms regarding social media, neighborhood walks, bathroom assistance, pizza lunches, and other special permissions.
  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher to manage classroom responsibilities
  • Communicate openly with the director regarding any concerns or needs
  • Maintain a positive, solutions-focused attitude in the classroom and school community
  • Assist with general school responsibilities (e.g., cleaning snack/lunch room, wiping down bathrooms between uses, setting up for Friday pizza lunch, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, organized classroom and contribute to the upkeep of shared/common areas.
  • Keep track of classroom supplies and add needed items to the school supply list.
  • Participate in school-wide setup and breakdown at the start and end of each week.
  • Assist in planning and implementing classroom events, parent gatherings, and student shows.
  • Attend at least one outside school event during the year (Movie Night is required)
  • Participate in classroom and school setup during the week prior to the start of the school year.
  • All salaried employees are required to work one lunch and one extended day per week as part of their contracted hours.
  • Follow all EEC licensing regulations and school policies.
  • Participate in required training and professional development opportunities.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
