Ocean Sports Director Job Description
At Ocean Beach Youth Group, our 8-week non-profit day camp on Fire Island aims to make every camper a comfortable ocean swimmer and foster a love and appreciation for the ocean.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serving as a lifeguard certified in water rescue procedures
- Ensuring compliance with current Board of Health guidelines for NYS camps
- Maintaining strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration
- Providing daily ocean safety updates to Village of OB lifeguards
- Developing and facilitating engaging games and activities for non-swimming days
Requirements:
- Age: At least 21 years old
- Waterfront lifeguard certification
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications with Epi Pen Training
- Detailed knowledge of ocean safety protocols, tides, rip tides, lifeguard flags, and training methods
- Strong surfing experience recommended
- Familiarity with beach sports such as volleyball, Kan Jam, and spike ball
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and external stakeholders
