Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics is seeking a full-time RN Charge!

Description:

Provides professional nursing leadership during assigned shift, guiding and assisting the nursing staff in the daily operation of the unit. Assumes the responsibility for adequate staffing for the next shift as well as during the current shift closing the unit as necessary. Makes room assignments for patients and staff. Communicates directly with management and administration as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing with Associated Degree in Nursing
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington
  • Three years' experience as an emergency department nurse
  • ACLS Certified
  • PALS Certified
  • TNCC Certified required within 6 months of hire
  • Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Certificate - NIH Stroke Scale Training Course within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to be flexible and to work well under pressure
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound nursing knowledge and assessment skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master's of Science in Nursing
  • Certified Emergency Nurse
  • Trauma/Stroke/Cardiac facility experience

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Triage Patients: Rapidly and accurately triage patients based on Emergency Severity Index
  • Assess Patients: Conduct rapid and focused assessments of patients of all ages to determine the severity of their conditions by demonstrating a deep understanding of emergency medicine.
  • Perform and Assist with Emergency Procedures: Carry out life-saving procedures such as CPR, tourniquet, insertion of airway adjuncts, cardiac defibrillation etc. as needed. Assist with intubation, central line insertion, chest tube insertion, etc. as needed
  • Monitor Vital Signs: Continuously monitor and document patients' vital signs to track changes in their condition and understand the clinical significance of changes.
  • Provide Patient Education: Offer clear explanations and instructions to patients and families about medical conditions, discharge instructions and treatment plans.
  • Coordinate Care: Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Manage Equipment: Operate and demonstrate proficiency in emergency medical equipment such as defibrillators, ventilators, and intravenous pumps.
  • Document Care: Accurately record patient information, treatments, and responses in electronic health records.
  • Respond to Rapid Response Emergencies: Quickly respond to and manage various emergency situations, including trauma, cardiac arrest, and respiratory distress across campus and outside areas. Able to run an ACLS/PALS code within nursing scope of practice independently.
  • Respond to Behavioral Health Emergencies: Assess danger, mitigate risk and deescalate situations involving patients having a mental health crisis. If needed apply chemical and physical restraints.
  • Maintain Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure a safe environment.
  • Stabilization of Critical Care Level Patients: Capable of providing critical care level management of patients on multiple titratable medications, manage ventilators, and demonstrates ability to act independently to clinical changes.
  • Prepare for Transfers: Organize and prepare patients for transfer to other facilities or units as required.
  • Stay Updated: Keep up with the latest medical knowledge and emergency care techniques through continuous education and training. Completes all assigned education in a timely manner.
  • Confidentiality: Provides patient privacy, exercises discretion and always assures confidentiality while dealing with patients and their families.
  • Advocate: Acts as a patient advocate as necessary to facilitate healthcare goals by reviewing, understanding and communicating patient needs, special care requirements and overall medical status to those involved in the patients care i.e. providers, nurses, family, therapist etc. and understand the concept of the Chain of Command to escalate concerns with patient care.
  • Follow Policy: Takes part in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures, quality improvement safety, environmental and safety programs.
  • Attendance: Follows hospital attendance policy and attends mandatory departmental or hospital wide meetings and in-services.
  • Educates: Facilitates orientation of new employees or precepting role for new graduates as needed.
  • Unit preparedness: Perform outdate checks, monitors supply levels, ensures unit and rooms are always ready for emergencies including resetting and cleaning rooms as needed.
  • Other Duties: Will assist in other care areas when needed and perform nursing activities such as med passes, admission charting, assessments, and other duties as assigned.
