  • Works set schedules, except for substitute DSP staff who work a flexible schedule, on an as needed basis, and are required to work in all residential homes, when needed
  • Assists individuals, as necessary, in activities of daily living which may require providing feeding, bathing and changing assistance.
  • Completes training with individuals towards achieving Individual Support Plan (ISP) outcomes and strategies.
  • Successfully documents the progress of all ISP outcomes in Therap each shift for all assigned individuals.  
  • Successfully completes and demonstrates proficiency in all areas of required training.
  • Attends conferences, seminars and training relevant to the position.
  • Administers and records the administration of medication in accordance with D.D.D. guidelines. 
  • Accompanies individuals to and from appointments and activities.
  • Builds a support network between the individuals and community members by helping individuals access resources and opportunities in their community, including social, recreational, and religious activities. Coaches them in their appropriate participation, provides transportation to and from community events and encourages community members to recognize the individual’s gifts to see past differences.
  • Accurately completes all in-house documentation as required in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in Circle(s) of Support for personal futures planning. 
  • Becomes familiar with and respectful of individuals' rights, interests, goals, dreams, capacities, lifestyle, needs, gifts, and social web (family, friends) by spending time with him/her, consulting with other staff.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by the Group Home Manager, Assistant Supervisor and Coordinator of Residential Services.  
  • Will perform all duties necessary to meet state approved objectives, federal Medicaid guidelines, Department of Human Services guidelines and OTC Services policies and procedures
  • Willingly and effectively cooperates with OTC, The Department of Human Services, The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request
  • Full Time Direct Support Professional - Multiple shifts available throughout Burlington County
  • Other duties as assigned

 

INITIATIVE and SKILLS REQUIRED: 

 

  • DSPs must be able to train individuals with disabilities in public environments, exercise patience, work with a flexible schedule and respond to crisis situations. 
  • DSPs must have a strong sense of empathy, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team. They also need to be able to handle the physical aspects of the job, such as bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for long periods of time.
  • The position also requires the full use of good judgment and common sense during daily affairsProfessional communication and appropriate language, whether written or oral, is essential in everyday activities.  This communication may be with any person involved in the life of the individuals living in the home.  Ingenuity and creativity must be utilized when determining the best training methods, assistance and supports for an individual.
  • DSPs must be able to identify possibilities instead of limitations and have an aptitude for seeing a person’s gifts and a passion for improving people’s quality of life.
  • DSPs work well individually and as part of a team and must have the ability to assist individuals physically and emotionally.
