Position Summary
A Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of a small medical
practice. This position is responsible for both administrative and clinical tasks, ensuring
the smooth workflow of the office and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient
care. The Medical Assistant works closely with healthcare providers, patients, and other
staff members, serving as the link between patients and the medical team.
Key Responsibilities
• Patient Interaction: Greet patients warmly, assist with check-in and check-out
procedures, and provide excellent customer service throughout the patient’s visit.
• Clinical Support: Prepare patients for examinations, record vital signs, and
document patient histories. Assist healthcare providers during examinations and
minor procedures as needed.
• Administrative Duties: Schedule appointments, answer phone calls, manage
patient records, process insurance forms, and handle billing inquiries.
• Medical Documentation: Accurately record patient information in paper or
electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance
with privacy regulations (HIPAA).
• Room Preparation: Prepare exam rooms before each patient visit, ensuring
cleanliness and adequate stock of medical supplies.• Specimen Collection: Collect and prepare laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, or throat swabs for analysis, and perform basic laboratory tests on-site when
required.
• Patient Education: Educate patients on physician instructions. Provide basic health
information and answer routine questions.
• Inventory Management: Monitor and order medical and office supplies to maintain
adequate inventory and avoid disruptions in patient care.
• Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, infection control policies, and
regulatory standards.
• Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with physicians and other staff,
contributing to a positive and professional office environment.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by healthcare providers or the
practice manager to support patient care and office efficiency.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical
Assistant training program is strongly preferred.
• Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is desirable.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification preferred.
• Previous experience in a medical or clinical setting is an asset, particularly in a
small practice environment.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and medical software systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team.
• Compassion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach to care.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer

Working Conditions
• Work is generally performed in a clinical office environment with direct patient
contact.
• Exposure to infectious materials, hazardous chemicals, and bodily fluids may
occur; personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided when needed.
• Work hours are typically standard business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:45
to 4:45.
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting or moving supplies and equipment
up to 25 pounds.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to operate medical instruments and office equipment.
• Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to take vital signs, administer tests, and
communicate with patients and staff.
• Occasional lifting, reaching, and carrying of medical supplies and equipment.
Benefits
• Salary Range: Starting at $24.00 an hour or more depending upon experience
