Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Handle animals safely and confidently using proper restraint techniques, including dog training and animal handling skills to reduce stress for pets and ensure safety for staff.
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to support accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain detailed records of pet care, treatments, and laboratory results while adhering to veterinary terminology standards.
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with cleaning, polishing, and performing pet grooming tasks as needed.
- Conduct animal husbandry duties including feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring overall health based on knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy.
- Operate radiography (X-ray) equipment accurately to assist in diagnostics while maintaining strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Assist with equine (horse) care when applicable, including handling, grooming, and basic medical support under supervision.
- Support critical care cases by monitoring vital signs, administering medications via catheterization or injections, and providing compassionate pet care during recovery periods.
Qualifications
- Prior kennel experience or hands-on animal handling experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and pet care best practices is essential.
- Experience with veterinary critical care procedures and laboratory testing enhances your ability to contribute effectively.
- Familiarity with dental terminology, pet grooming techniques, dog training methods, and X-ray operation is a plus.
- Strong animal restraint skills along with the ability to handle dogs confidently in various situations are required.
- Demonstrated understanding of aseptic technique during surgical or diagnostic procedures is important.
