Duties

  • You will maintain a working relationship with the local State and the U.S. Department of the Interior (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) to study endangered wildlife species and threatened populations.
  • You will conduct felony and misdemeanor investigations into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws which involve a wide range of law enforcement activities.
  • You will prepare evidence for orderly presentation before the U.S. Magistrate, U.S. Attorney and other legal officials, testifying in court and preparing detailed written statements and reports.
  • You will supervise subordinate civilian and military police personnel, performing the full range of personnel management and supervisory duties.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
  • You must meet and maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
  • You must must be able to pass a pre-appointment physical and annual medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position and pass annual physical agility test requirements.
  • You must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems and, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
  • You must possess and continue to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • You must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The position is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and/or holiday work schedules.
  • This position requires that the incumbent has successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and conducting an enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations; coordinating studies of endangered wildlife species and threatened populations; controlling safe hunting and boating activities; and/or conducting investigations into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
