What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Year Equestrian Instructor: Camp Thunderbird position at Observer Fresh Air Camp Inc?
Under the direction of the Associate Resident Camp Program Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Summer Equestrian Instructors assist with providing safe and fun equestrian programming for campers, students, and groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead riding lessons and instruction.
- Assist with pony rides for cross-departmental programming.
- Assist in daily feeding, watering, cleaning, and grooming of all horses.
- Maintain and clean stalls and muck paddocks.
- Turn in and turn out horses.
- Maintain the general health of animals including daily checks for injuries and illness and administer equine first aid as needed.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained in proper condition.
- Monitor equestrian program supplies and report needs to Supervisor.
- Assist in other camp programming as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in horse handling
- Self-motivated and energetic
- Obtain and maintain current CPR & AED Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching lessons preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work irregular work hours and weekends.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
