About Observe New Mexico Elections

Observe New Mexico Elections, funded by The Carter Center, is a nonpartisan election observation effort designed to increase trust and transparency in elections. Observers are trained about relevant laws, procedures, and safeguards in New Mexico’s electoral process and verify that those procedures are followed consistently. Nonpartisan election observers represent all voters, do not interfere in the election process, and report what they see. Observers’ findings from across the state will ultimately be aggregated and shared with the public.

Position Description for Municipal Election Observation Coordinator

Observe New Mexico Elections, a project funded by The Carter Center, is seeking a detail-oriented person to observe on Election Day (November 4), 2025. The observer will observe for the entire day, 12 hours. Please apply only if you are registered to vote in Eddy County, New Mexico. Duties will include

• Observe and report on Election Day voting ($200)
• Attend 1 in-person trainings in Carlsbad ($100)

Preferred Start Date: August 1

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $100 to attend the in-person training (4 hours minimum) and $200 to observe election day voting in a polling place within the municipality of Carlsbad, NM.

Schedule:

• Attend in-person training on Sunday, October 26 from 11 am - 3 pm in Carlsbad
• Conduct nonpartisan observation at a polling place assigned to you by the ONME Carlsbad Municipal Coordinator (shift begins at 6:30 am)

Experience and abilities:

• Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides): comfortable
• Access to the Internet
• Access to a smartphone (voice, text, Internet)
• Interest in learning about elections in New Mexico

Ability to Commute:

• Residence in New Mexico and voter registration in Eddy County (Required)
• Work location is Carlsbad, New Mexico
