Tattoo Artist

I am an independent tattoo artist working professionally for over 15 years, & am the owner of a private studio in Long Beach, NY. I'm in need of a hard-working special somebody I am ideally looking for an experienced tattoo artist and/or body piercer... but I am willing to entertain the possibility of a new tattoo apprentice if the applicant is the right fit for our family.

My studio, Obscura, has three resident artist stations but also plays host to several rotating guest artists. We may be looking to take on a new resident artist or possibly a tattoo apprentice looking to become a resident artist. All resumes and portfolios will be entertained

While we do welcome walk-ins when staff permits– we ultimately are a private, by appointment, third floor studio. All of our artists are responsible for their own clientele and their own appointment booking. There are no set hours of operation.

As the owner, I do handle all of the studio's phone and web based leads. Eg: I will pass along clients as needed. But it is highly recommended that you have, and are willing to build your own clientele.

The following requirements listed below are sorted for a seasoned tattooist or piercer versus a tattoo apprentice. Lengthy— but listed for transparency. Motivation to work and/or learn are paramount. We are a busy, fast-growing, family-oriented studio and commitment and available time are a must.

Compensation will be discussed situationally as per applicant based on their interest, experience, and availability.

Desired expectations of tattooer or piercer:

-Comfortable with administrative tasks; all client management/appointment booking

-Computer/Ipad/Photoshop/Procreate equipped— we do not supply a shared studio computer.

-Piercing Tools & Body Jewelry equipped– we do have a resident piercer that has a number of her own supplies & an autoclave ultrasonic— use of these items may be available depending on the applicant.

-Own Social Media - we do not have or manage any studio specific social media accounts

-Background in Art & Design; Please provide Portfolio upon request

-Personable, Kind & Patient

-Hard-Working & Motivated

-Strong Organizational Abilities

-Independent but Works Well with Others

Tattoo Apprenticeship Expectations:

-Willingness to learn & be receptive to different facets of Art & Design

-Capacity & desire to produce drawings, sketches, & original artwork regularly

-Willing to complete regular drawing & design assignments from home

-Willing to Learn Tattoo Shop Maintenance

-Must complete OSHA Blood-Borne Pathogens Training & Nassau County NY Department of Health BBP Certification during apprenticeship

-Willingness to produce future clientele, & ability to provide interested canvases for practice during apprenticeship

-Personal Social Media Management - Editing photos, posting, engaging on multiple social media platforms for self promotion
