Position Overview

Obra Institutional Credit is seeking a Quantitative, Fundamental Leveraged Loan /High Yield Research Analyst to join our Montpelier, VT based team. This role supports the Senior Credit team in conducting fundamental research while heavily leveraging data, analytics, and quantitative techniques to help research below investment grade credit opportunities across a range of industries. The ideal candidate will bring a strong analytical foundation, technical proficiency, and a desire to apply both fundamental and quantitative tools to credit investing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain financial models, credit scoring tools, and datasets to analyze corporate fundamentals, capital structures, earnings performance, and industry benchmarks to help predict trajectory paths and understand implications of such paths.
  • Support senior credit analysts by applying quantitative frameworks to assess value, micro and macro drivers and risk and market trends.
  • Develop tools and dashboards to streamline credit monitoring, company and industry trajectories, and perform sector surveillance.
  • Translate complex financial and market data into clear, actionable insights for investment discussions and committee presentations.
  • Systematize and maintain critical datasets used in research and reporting processes.
  • Present credits to, and discuss them with, the Investment Committee.
  • Monitor and reassess credits. Provide updated thoughts continually.
  • Prepare written and visual materials summarizing key findings for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the investment team to identify, backtest, and refine datasets and quantitative models that enhance credit selection and risk assessment.
  • Participate in ad hoc research projects and strategic initiatives involving data analysis and model development.


Qualifications:

  • 1 years of relevant experience in credit research, quantitative analysis, investment banking, and/or a related role. Recent graduates with strong quantitative internship experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field (e.g., Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics) with a minimum 3.5 GPA. A Master's degree or progress toward one is a plus.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including working knowledge of accounting, capital structures, and corporate finance concepts.
  • Proficient in Excel and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL for data analysis and automation.
  • Familiarity with credit markets, leveraged loans, or fixed income instruments is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Focused worker who takes the initiative is a must.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this role is outlined below. In addition to the base salary, total compensation may include a discretionary bonus based on performance. This range given is a best faith estimate which reflects a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, education, location and other qualifications pertinent to the position. Base salary does not include any other performance based compensation such as year end cash bonus.


$70,000-$85,000
